Here are my 5 Top Must Have Tools to make your laser business stand out, and most importantly, keep those customers coming back for more!

And stick around for the last one! No amount of money can buy it; you already have it and it’s absolutely responsible for making you the most profits!

Coming off as a professional business 100% affects whether or not you are going to make a sale. When you make the customer experience exceptional, you get positive reviews. And when you get positive reviews, you create an army of customers telling new people to buy your products.

1. Multipurpose Thermal Label Printer (Munbyn 403B)

The moment your customer gets their order in the mail; they start judging you.

This is why I highly suggest a thermal printer, but not just any thermal printer.

This is the Munbyn 403B Bluetooth label printer. Not only is having your package labels on a nice sticker sheet a very professional way to start off your customers mail experience, but it saves you so much time.

I used to scale down, print out, cut out and tape on each label and that took forever.

Ok, maybe that was a little dramatic, but a minute saved is a minute earned.

And, honestly, mailing labels are the least interesting thing about this machine in particular.

You can also make product labels, price tags, barcodes, thank you notes and my favorite – little branded stickers as a thank you gift! No need for ink, all of these pretty label options are thermal reactive, just like the mailing labels.

You can connect this machine via Bluetooth to your computer AND your phone! I use the app on my phone to design all sorts of stuff!

Changing out the thermal reactive paper is silly easy. One button opens it up and then you just need to feed your stickers through these guides and slide them over to fit.

Hooking up the Bluetooth is a breeze and printing from your phone is even easier. It’s super-fast and their collection of thermal reactive stickers is huge.

There are so (SO!) many designs to choose from if you need some inspiration. You can easily search by the size and theme.

I had made this one with some of their images and text editing functions. It only takes a few minutes to make something that you can use for any aspect of your business.

And printing them is even faster. Since the stickers are thermal reactive, there are no need for inks and there’s nothing to smudge! No need to wait for traditional printer companies!

You can upload your own logos, even pictures, and the app print it out perfectly.

They have a large selection of images, shapes and fonts ready to choose from to design anything you need for your business.

Like I mentioned, there are a bunch of different shapes of labels you can use for packaging, mailing and even for your products themselves!

Adding in a little surprise, like a fun sticker, is always an easy way to elevate the customer experience.

2. Product Packaging

Speaking of the customer experience, the way your merchandise is packaged can have a huge effect.

I was reading this forbes article about packaging psychology and get this:

"Research in consumer psychology consistently highlights the impact of packaging on purchasing decisions, with studies indicating that most consumers make judgments about a product based on its packaging alone. In a 2018 survey,ย 72% of American consumersย stated that their purchase decisions were influenced by a productโ€™s packaging design."

Packaging doesn’t have to encapsulate your entire product. If you have big things, even just a tag hanging off a nice cord can give your product that little bit more.

Packaging can enhance the Visual Appeal of your product just by using your brands logo, colors and fonts. Overall aesthetics play a crucial role in attracting attention and conveying brand identity.

Every product has a story, and packaging is another platform to market yourself and business. Whether it’s how it’s made, the inspiration behind the product, or the impact it aims to make, storytelling adds depth and meaning.

On the back of my jewelry cards, I have my origin story, and it serves as a humanizing point of reference to let the customer know that I am a real person and their choice to buy my products affects me personally.

3. Perfect Photos Lead to Perfect Sales

Nurturing our relationships with our customers through our packaging is all well and good, but what if you’re still struggling to get that initial sale?

A picture is worth a thousand words, but what we want it to do is maybe generate a thousand dollars, instead?

I’m going to give you a mini rapid-fire masterclass on product pictures, so strap in!

Step 1. Get the product.
Step 2. Pick the place. You don’t need a fancy backdrop; just pick a place that’s not on your floor or bed. Since we have so many sheets of acrylic and wood laying around, use it as a backdrop!
Step 3. Light it up. This diffuser lamp was $35 and is well worth it! The light doesn’t reflect harshly on reflective materials and dark shadows hide the wonderful features of your product!
Step 4. Take 5 pictures. First one is forward facing, second one is up close details, third one is in hand, fourth one is it in action (like jewelry being worn, a mug being sipped on, a frame on a wall), the fifth picture is on a white background. To prevent harsh shadows, get a piece of clear matt acrylic and put your item on top.
Step 5. Edit! I’ve been working on a template for my pictures, so the editing is a breeze. As you know, each online marketplace has different photo requirements, so make sure you check all the necessary boxes. I have a template for special features, packaging and options to make it easier on myself.

The white background shot is going to show really clear details and won’t have any surrounding items casting shadows or reflecting a weird color on it. A lot of apps and websites can remove the background, but with a good enough light, we can get that perfect shot.

I like to take a bunch of other fun pictures, even if they aren’t going to be used in the product listings for the next insanely important tool you need for business success.

4. Email Marketing Service

Email marketing is one of the highest ROI marketing strategies. You can announce new products, run special promotions, and share behind-the-scenes content directly with people who have already shown interest in your brand.

Unlike social media, you own your email list. If a platform disappears or changes its rules, you still have a way to reach your audience.

No matter which email service provider you choose, these services allow for segmentation, so you can send targeted emails.

For my jewelry business, I just have just 2 segments. When I collect emails at a craft show, I put those emails in my “in town” segment. I’ll send special emails to just them whenever I have an event in the area. Any other general sales emails are then sent to them and everyone else!

Gathering emails is not hard. You can have a pop-up on your personal website, have a link to go to on invoices, or even easier, a piece of paper and a pencil at a craft show.

It’s usually wise to incentivize an email signup. If you are in person, you can offer a free sticker with an email sign up. Online, I like to incentivize a special discount code, like 20% off your first order.

Here’s another example; if you would like to expand your laser business into a 6-figure life changer like I did, and maybe even score a free product review and one-on-one coaching on how to exceed your wildest handmade business dreams, sign up to my email list. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ok, on to the last and most valuable tool that you already have –

5. YOU – Wildly Exceed Customer Expectations

You are a tool. Wait! No. That is not what I mean! But it kind of is… Let me explain!

You are the driving force behind your business! As the creator, owner AND customer service representative of your business, it’s all on you whether or not your customers have a good experience.

If your customer is mad that the mail was delayed or the thing isn’t the color they were expecting, it’s up to you whether you try to turn that experience into a positive interaction with your business or to tell them to f*** off.

Turns out, if you go that second route, you are probably going to get a bad review. Which is bad for future sales.

I was a restaurant manager for years before I got my hands on a laser, so I was luckily trained by the very worst customers on the planet on how to deal with them.

Unfortunately, some people are just impossible to please. If they still are being dinguses even after some de-escalation tactics, trust that your other customers can recognize a crazy person in your reviews. And because you are in charge of your business; you can refuse to work with them again. Easy peasy.

Over-deliver as much as you can. This can be responding to questions quickly, sending out thank you cards, following up on past transactions, or even just throwing in a little extra into every order.

We’ve got lasers, so we can make a lot of these fun little extras! Make a little magnet out of all the weird scrap pieces of material you have laying around. Magnets are cheap, you might even be able to get your kids or nieces and nephews to help glue them on. Every time you get an order, say, over $50 – throw one in!

That’s why I like that thermal printer, you can make a bunch of little stickers in advance and put them in with every order.

Anything you can do to build trust, within reason, and make the customer experience better will drastically improve the chances of repeat business. It’s easier to sell to people who know what to expect from you.

Here’s a crazy statistic: Repeat customers are responsible for 41% of revenue โ€” but only 8% of traffic.

Repeat customers are responsible for 41% of revenue โ€” but only 8% of traffic.

So, if you aren’t trying to get people to trust you, connect on a personal level, and continue supporting your business, you’re just going to waste time and earn less.

But, if you are still trying to nail down what products to even sell to these customers, read THIS NEXT. I’ll tell you what my top 5 selling products are and how to copy them to fit your business.

Happy Crafting!
