Marketing Made Easy Masterclass + 30-Day Laser Marketing Plan Guide
The main reason most laser businesses fail in their first year is because they give up. If you ever thought you weren’t going to succeed and you quit, then you were right!
But the actual reason why people give up is so much more than that.
So, we are going over the top 5 reasons people like you give up on their laser business dreams and what you can do to fix it.
Let’s dive in!

1. You Don’t Actually Know How to Sell Your Products
Picture this, you have the perfect product! It makes sense, it’s beautiful, it will even make people’s lives better! You slap it up on the internet or even take it to a craft show and absolutely nothing happens.

There is no “set it and forget it” to business. To ANY business. I know there is a lot of hoopla on the internet, but a real business needs to be a REAL business and ain’t no real business just sitting around doing nothing. Don’t make me get my southern out, cuz I will and you don’t wanna feel like a one legged man in an ass-kicking contest!
So, what do we do about this?
You need to know who your customer is. You need to know where they are shopping. And – You need to know what they want to hear to fall in love with your product.
Elmer Wheeler once said, like a hundred years ago, “Don’t sell the steak, sell the sizzle”. That that still stands true today.

Is your product a really cute custom keychain holder? Nope – it’s the final organizational solution you need to stop losing those keys.

Is your product a pet memorial ornament? Nope – it’s a commemorative art piece that will ignite the love in your heart of your lost pet for the rest of time.
No matter where you are trying to sell your products, you have to showcase them like they are going to solve the very problem your customer is facing even if they weren’t exactly aware of that problem.
Speaking of customers…
2. You Don’t Know Who Your Customers Are
This is very common. In fact, I have been here before.
If you are a little like me and went on making products before you truly understood your customer base, it’s not impossible to get it all figured out after the fact, it’s just going to take some legwork.
We need to get in the minds of your customers, even if you haven’t sold anything yet. Which is surprisingly easy!

Here’s what to do. Open up Pinterest or even google images and get to searching. Use the same keywords you would use for your product.
Now we become detectives. Find similar products, click on them and observe the other products that come up. You can find a lot of new keywords you may not have thought of, including new inspiration, of course.
Click on products and investigate their sales page. Do they have customer reviews? What types of words do they use and what did they say? Are there pictures or features they talk about? Are they posting pictures of this item inside their house?

You can find out a lot about people who like a certain kind of product by researching the exact things they say. You might get insight in whether they have kids, a giant mansion, or even a brand new direction to take your product.
You might have thought you were making a fun thing for the dachshund dog niche, but were accidentally selling to the mid-century decor niche, or vice versa.
Another great way of getting an idea of your possible customers is to look up similar products on Instagram and seeing what the comment section is saying. Select a person or two and check out their profile, but don’t be too creepy about it.

Since we are sleuthing so much on our customers, in turn we are actually finding out a lot about the competition.
Do you know how to deal with competition?
3. You Don’t Have a Unique Selling Position
What is a USP? It’s what makes you different even if you sell the same thing as other people. So, what makes you unique compared to others?
Think about what brand coffee you like. Not just which awesome coffee shop to get a latte, but which type of coffee do you like for home? Ground beans, whole beans, flavored, decaf for some insane and very wrong reason?

Unless your thing is just what’s on sale (which is a targeted customers base for grocery stores) these coffee brands go out of their way to make themselves stand out from the rest.
The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup. But maybe you prioritize fairtrade or organic coffees. Locally roasted or premium small batch smooth blonde roasts.
If you just tell your customers your key rack is a really good key rack, they’re going to say, “Well isn’t that nice,” and move along.
Maybe your wares are made with repurposed old barn wood, or maybe it’s the only cat themed jewelry brand made of 100% hypoallergenic metals. Instead of raw engraved wood, yours is stained and sealed to last generations.

If there is even one more step you can do to your products, it could be the tipping point to turn an onlooker into a buyer.
That is really what BRANDING is all about. It’s more than just having a fun color palette and cute logo. Branding is your business’s identity.
But it goes so much more in depth than that. I actually just recently had a masterclass on Marketing. It’s way more than just a video, it’s a minicourse on how to leverage your branding, form lifelong customers and I also give you a clear marketing path for laser businesses specifically. I even threw in a 30-day Marketing plan, so check that out HERE.
But before you do that, there is one hard truth a lot of us need to come into realization of and probably the biggest reason why people quit.
4. You Aren’t a Businessperson, You’re a Craftsperson
And that’s ok. Business is a beast. Starting and running a business is too much for a lot of people because it is a LOT.
You have to come up with products, become a professional photographer, listing manager, event booking agent, tax expert and so much more.
It’s ok. Either you come to terms with that and scale it back into a cozy crafting hobby side hustle or you pay people to wear these hats. Or a third option!

Find yourself a partner! If you have a spouse or family member that is ready to hit the streets and find some business contacts, or even solidify your presence online, then get them involved!
You can figure out how to split the profits. In fact, you have a bigger potential to grow, because you can focus on making exceptional products and they can focus on bringing in those sales.
We don’t wanna spread our buttah too thin.
For a lot of us “lone wolf” types, it can be hard to relinquish control, but if you want success, sometimes we need some help. It’s ok to reach out. It doesn’t mean you are failing, it just means you need some support.

And a vision. Which brings us to –
5. You Don’t Have a Real Business Goal
Let me know if this sounds like you: You got a laser. You love it. You made some things. Your friends love it. You thought, “Maybe I should sell it?”

This is not a business. This is the beginning of your laser skill.
What should happen next, is you get good. Maybe you do a couple craft shows, maybe you sell some things to your coworkers and your family. Some time passes, your skills increase. Ya know, see what happens?
This is still not a business.
This is a hobby that you make a couple bucks from. Like we’ve covered, that’s ok if that’s enough for you. But, if you want to quit your day job, start a brand, build an enterprise, make a name for yourself, then you need a pair of business pants.
Metaphorically. I assume you have some sort of pants already.
Each business needs a different pair of business pants, depending on your business style. And I can’t think of anyone else better to help you find your perfect fit than my besties at Laser Design Club.
