โข Faux Leather Sheets
If you’re still choosing between a fiber laser OR a diode laser, you’re probably leaving money on the table and you don’t even realize it. I’ve been working with lasers for over a decade and I used to think you needed two separate machines to cover all your bases.
But WeCreat just dropped something that changes the whole game, and we’re going on a treasure hunt to prove it.

The Map Unfolds
WeCreat sent me their brand new Lumos Flex, and this is a machine that does something I’ve never seen at this price point. It’s got a 15-watt fiber laser AND a 15-watt diode laser built into one module.

Fiber for metal.
Diode for organics.
No swapping machines, no choosing sides.

I was going to stand here and list out it’s stats, but when I was scripting out this video, a usb containing a mysterious treasure map came into my possession under very unusual conditions.

So first, let’s make this map and see what we’re in for!
And each mark on this map is a project I have to make with the Lumos Flex to prove what it can really do.

Five stops. Five projects. Let’s see if this machine is worth the treasure.
STOP 1: “The Stone & The Sword” – Slate Coaster + Metal Tag
First stop on the map, and we’re going big right out of the gate, because this stop uses BOTH lasers. This is where the Lumos Flex flexes hard.
Since I am working in the MakeIt! software, which comes with all WeCreat Machines, I can set up my design here in a flash.

First, we need to engrave a custom metal tag. This could be a pet tag, a keychain tag, a luggage tag โ whatever your customer needs. No need for an anodized surface. No need for marking spray.
The fiber laser etches into stainless steel like it was made for it. Because it was.
This is a Stainless Steel super shiny dog tag. In literal seconds, it marks this Jolly Roger right into the metal.

Now watch this. Same machine, same software. Switch to the diode laser with just one click, and I’m engraving a slate coaster with a matching design.
And this laser can emboss 3D images into slate coasters, but we’re not ready for that yet. We’ve only just embarked on this treasure hunt of ours.

So, this first stop on our treasure map shows you the real treasure right away, the Lumos Flex handles 99% of your best-selling materials without you ever having to swap to a different machine. Fiber for the metal. Diode for the slate. One workflow. One machine.
And by the way โ that 50-megapixel camera I just used to line up both designs? Built right in. Autofocus too, but manually focusing the machine is easy and quick. The camera shows you your whole workspace and you just drop your design where you want it.

Now let’s see where this map is taking us next.
STOP 2: “The Wild Card” – Handheld Engraving on a Large Object
Second mark on the map. And this one’s different because we’re leaving the desk.
This baby is hitting the high seas!
The Lumos Flex has a handheld mode. The laser module detaches and you can engrave directly onto oversized objects that won’t fit in the desktop frame. Large gear, furniture, even automotive parts if that’s your thing.

Think memorial bench or picnic table. A wall, cabinet or storage boxes!
But today? Today I’m engraving my chicken coop. Because my girls deserve some recognition. Even if they are super afraid of the color orange. They won’t even eat carrots. Super silly.

With a portable battery, you can really take this thing on the road.
You just upload your design onto the machine, unplug the usb cord, and off you go!

Here’s what nobody tells you about handheld mode โ this unlocks a whole different revenue stream. On-site personalization at craft shows. Custom work at retail shops. Engraving on customers’ items they bring to you that won’t fit in the main machine body.
That’s a premium service, and super fun at parties.
Just consider what you are engraving. Large complicated designs at a 90 degree angel need to be held steady for a long time. The machine will stop the process if it feels you move a little bit, but it will pick up where you left off just by pressing the button again.
The birds are now ready to completely ignore this, but I like it. They left me a bit of treasure themselves! Thanks for the eggs, ladies!

After I hooked the laser head back up to the main body, making sure it was screwed on there nice and tight, I tried to engrave an egg for funsies.
Nice.
I bet this would look super cool if I had stained the egg first! Next time.

What else can we do with this thing?
STOP 3: “The Leather Trail” – Faux Leather Coin Purse
Third stop. And this one’s really fun because leather products, even faux leather products, are where some of the best margins live.
I’m cutting and engraving a coin purse from faux leather today. The diode laser on the Lumos Flex cuts through this stuff like butter, and the engraving? Clean, high contrast, no scorch marks.

In fact, this faux leather from Johnson Plastics Plus, engraves with a golden shiny color. Perfect for treasure!
Here’s the better alternative to buying pre-cut blanks, you cut your own.

Faux leather sheets are cheap, like crazy cheap, and you control every dimension. Small coin purses, card sleeves, keychain pouches : you cut ’em, you engrave ’em, you sell ’em.
A faux leather coin purse like this? Stick this on a keychain, or even a necklace and I’d sell it for $15 to $20 all day. And my material cost is, I don’t even want to say it because it’s so low.

It’s the positioning, not the product.
And here’s the thing, the Lumos Flex has an enclosed shield cover and auto-stop safety. So even when you’re cranking out batch after batch of leather goods, you’re protected. The laser stops if it detects an issue, or if you create a little fire. (It’s OK. It happens to the best of us.)
Safety first, profits close second.
So have you noticed a trend so far? Fiber for metal. Diode for organics. And nowโฆ what if I told you stop number four has BOTH kinds of cutting in one project?
STOP 4: “Unlocking Potential” – Wooden Key + Metal Key
Okay, fourth stop on the map. And I love this one because it’s literally a KEY. Like, we need keys to unlock the treasure, right? Stay with me here.
Let’s start with the first key. One out of wood with the diode laser.
I still have the raised bed in there, which is best for cutting, so let’s drop in a thin piece of wood and get to cutting. Easy right? Perfect for jewelry, all sorts of stuff, really.

The diode cuts up to 15mm wood. This key is thin, so it zips right through. Clean edges, no burning. Look at that.
Before we talk about cutting metals, you heard that right, let’s cut some fake metal!
This two-toned acrylic is diode compatible and that 15w laser is going to cut right through this. In fact, I had to drop the power, because it was doing too good! Acrylic is easy enough to buff out.

Look at that! Same design, metal like sheen! Cute! I even made a little fake leather keychain for these keys.
Adorable, but wait there’s more!
Now, same machine, switching to fiber laser. And I’m going to cut this key out of a thin aluminum sheet.

Cutting metal? Yep. This is my first fiber laser and I’m going all the way with it!
This is where people lose their minds. A diode laser cannot cut metal. Not an Infrared, or a CO2. Period. But the fiber laser on the Lumos Flex? It delicately slices through thin brass, aluminum and steel.

It takes a while, don’t get me wrong. I’m still fiddling with all the settings and figuring it out.
Look at those little sparks fly! That’s how you know this thing has some real power.
Now here is the key! A pretty simple design, but perfect to for jewelry! I had tried to cut brass, got close, but then I got too excited for the black aluminum key pendant.
Which is why, if you don’t follow me yet, this is why you should! I’ll be coming out with some short videos soon with my other engraving and cutting findings and settings!
Ok! We’ve got our keys. And that meansโฆ we can unlock the treasure. Final stop.
STOP 5: “The Next Dimention” – 3D Embossed Doubloons
Last stop on the treasure map. The big one. And this is so fun, I’m completely hooked.
We’re making doubloons. Treasure coins. And not just flat engravings, 3D embossed coins you can feel with your fingertips.

The Lumos Flex does something most machines at this price can’t, 3D embossing. The laser carves actual depth into your material, creating a raised relief design. It’s not a surface scratch. It’s real, physical, three-dimensional texture.
And, you don’t need to be a 3D modeling wizard. WeCreat’s MakeIt! software has a built-in tool that converts a regular 2D image into a 3D relief file. Convenience at its best!

This is why I’m always talking about lasers that come with their own software. It makes a huge difference. There’s actually a lot of AI upgrades now, but we’ll save that for another day.
I don’t have any coins to try out yet, but I do have plenty of scrap metal! This stainless-steel sheet should be a great example for this 3D effect.

The settings can be daunting, but I imagine there will be some great guides soon, and I plan to make one!
The 3D embossing fiber laser works just like any other, going upways, sideways and all around to achieve a 3D effect.
How fun is this! I can’t wait to get my blank coins in the mail! I think they’ll turn out really nice! I’ll be able to make them deeper, too! This is just my trial piece.

I’m telling you, hit that subscribe button and soon you will see everything else I have planned for this little machine.
Custom challenge coins, commemorative pieces, promotional items for businesses, 3D keepsakes, you name it.
And no matter what, I really love the way the fiber laser engraves into metals! This pendant is just a golden color, super cheap pendant from Amazon. I’m not sure what exact metals this even is, but it engraves like a dream!

AND FAST!
That’s what important when you take this thing abroad, which is what I plan to do next month at a mini comic-con! Stay tuned!
The WeCreat Lumos Flex Diode & Fiber Laser
These treasures are amazing, and so fun to make. But here’s the thing, the real treasure? It’s this machine. Because getting true metal power used to cost a fortune. Now you have a 15-watt fiber and a 15-watt diode right on your desk. It’s a high-margin little business in a box.

And at this price point? Fiber versus diode? Now you don’t have to choose. If you want to grab the WeCreat Lumos Flex CLICK HERE! And use code LASERLADY120 to save an extra $120 bucks. Nice!

And-
If you’re wondering how it compares to the original WeCreat Lumos, then check out this post next. It was an absolute race against time to get everything ready to take it to a cat convention!
Thank you so much for going on this treasure hunt with me, and happy crafting!
