There’s no need to ever sacrifice your creativity, you just need a machine that does it all. And maybe a few new things, why not?

If you’re watching the same videos I am, you’ve seen this “multi-passionate creator” thing everywhere lately.

And it’s not about having twelve hobbies.

It’s about this: every time you want to make something new, the answer shouldn’t be another $700 machine in one corner of your garage, next to the more expensive toy, I mean tool, which is on top of the last broken whatsamacallit. And so on…

If you like working with wood, leather, paper, acrylic, full-color prints, fake leather, felt, fabric and more – you’ve probably got a different tool for every single one. Right?

Here’s the thing. Cricut owners know exactly what I’m talking about. You buy it to make vinyl decals and shirts, and the second you want to engrave a wooden sign or cut a piece of real leather, you’re stuck. Cuz it really does only does the one thing.

And that’s when the “just pick one craft” voice starts creeping up and getting loud again.

We all know vinyl cutters are just the gateway machine to lasers anyway, so let’s just start there!

This is the xTool M2. Mine has two modes, a 10W diode laser that engraves and cuts wood, leather, acrylic, slate and more, plus a full-color inkjet print head that prints and then you can switch back to the laser head and cut around the design.

Plus, there are oodles of attachements you can get to upgrade this baby.

Let’s start with the laser!

Laser Time

Obviously, I love the laser aspect, not just because my parents named me laser as a little bitty baby, but because that’s the money maker.

(My name isn’t actually Laser, by the way, but I do like to use that name when I order coffee.)

These bamboo cutting boards, plus cheese knife, cost me just over $4 for the set.

Engrave a little this or that and now we’ve got AT LEAST a $20 product (probably more).

A hilarious engraved pleather keychain that cost me 75cents and 3 minutes of engraving time, bam another 5 bucks in the bank.

I’m about to vend at a comic con, so I’ve got to stock up on this sort of stuff.

You know, the stuff that is fast to make and EASY to sell.

But there will be other laser engraved wares being slung up and down that convention, so let’s up the interest factor a little bit with COLOR.

Full Color Printing

Cricut will cut your design, but it can’t print it. The M2 prints full color and then cuts around it. So you’re making full-color stickers, labels, even custom packaging, all in one pass.

No need to line anything up. You just switch out the print head for the laser head and that’s literally it.

If you’ve ever had to design in one program, print on one printer, and cut on another machine while praying everything lines up — you know that feeling of “why is this so flipping hard.” This ends it.

The last set of full color stud earrings were a hit at Cat Fest, so let’s make some more for Comic Con!

First, you just prime your wood with this spray that xTool has on hand so the ink doesn’t bleed into the wood. Very easy to do!

Next you print your designs onto the wood. I like to include a little bit of an outline as a “bleed line” so cutting works perfectly on the first try.

Next, switch the head and get to cutting!

Of course, the xTool software makes this super easy.

Here is the finished product after I glue the backings on and cure some UV resin over everything. That helps seal it in and makes these last forever.

I also made some magnets.

And here’s why this as just a printer is the coolest freaking thing!

Here’s a small tile. We can print on this! With that same Printer Primer Spray, after it is completely dried, it prints like a dream!

You can use this spray on wood, glass, metal, all sorts of stuff. Full color. Perfect prints. High profit. Super useful.

Why Modular Machines are Worth It

Now here’s the thing I respect most about this machine, and it’s the part that actually speaks to multi-passionate people. It’s modular.

Need a stronger laser, get the 20w diode laser head.

Want to print things? Boom print head. Which is easily replaceable and for how much you can print with it, pretty worth it.

What about a rotary attachement? Yup, of course.

If they roll out more modules and attachments, you don’t need a whole new machine. Which is good for your studio space and your wallet.

This machine grows with you instead of making you feel guilty for having twelve interests.

The Multi-Passionate Money Map

Now the part nobody teaches you. Being multi-passionate is a business superpower. You will never get stuck with being able to only make one thing.

Every function on this machine is a different revenue stream:

One: Personalized gifts. The Laser is great for this. Heck, the whole machine is going to be able to make you a lifetime supply of these! The highest margin, the fastest sale.

Two: Stickers and labels. Print then cut. Low ticket, but they sell in packs and they sell forever. I like to make these for promotional things. Like these stickers for my new cat themed brand. I’ll be handing these out like business cards.

Three: Leather and paper goods with the Laser. Premium positioning, premium price. Hot tip, the faux leather cuts like butter with this thing.

Four: Custom packaging and branded products. Print head. This is the business-to-business door most crafters never open. I love making my own packaging. This enables my wares to look super premium.

The possibilities are endless, just like you many crafty passions.

Custom felt sewing kits, print on fabric and make hair ties, laser cut light switch covers, laser engraved paint by numbers, jewelry, personalized gift tags, gifts for EVERY holiday, heck – gift baskets for every holiday, toys, organizational trays, pet tags, home decor – should I keep going!??!

The money you save by not buying four machines is nice. But the real win is that you can test four products with one investment. Most people buy one tool, get stuck in one lane, and quit. And you ain’t no quitter, right!

The problem was never that you had too many passions. It’s that your tools kept making you feel guilty for having them. And maybe you’ve got a couple people who need to stop trying to suppress your creativity.

Best way to shut them up is to prove to them how worthy and profitable your ideas truly are! That’s what my channel is all about – making that sweet sweet laser money.
